Excel：超越，勝過
excel [ik‘sel] 做動詞主要有兩個意思
一是：超越，勝過
所以當外國人跟你說「You excel me」
是指你勝過了他 / 她
例：
He always hopes that his son will excel him someday.
他總是希望他的兒子有天能勝過他。
除了excel
表達「超越，勝過」的單詞還有：

surpass[səˈpɑːs]
例：
He was determined to surpass the achievements of his older brothers.
他決心超越幾個哥哥的成就。

exceed[ɪkˈsiːd]
例：
They exceed us in number.
他們在人數上超過我們。

一般跟介詞in搭配
例：
She excels in dancing.
她在舞蹈方面出類拔萃。
She excels in teaching English.
她擅長教英語。
除了excel
表達「擅長」的單詞還有：

expert at/in
在…方面熟練的
expert這個詞作名詞的時候
意思是「專家；能手」
后面可接介詞on，at或in
比如：
He is an expert on/at/in lung diseases.
他是肺部疾病方面的專家。
作形容詞的時候
表示「熟練的；內行的」
后面常接介詞at或者in
比如：
He is expert at/in painting.
他的專長是畫畫。
